   Introduction

The  consequence of death penalty in the society.

The death penalty has been in existence since 1608. The death penalty is a capital punishment, killing a person for committing a crime. In Nigeria, the offence Of death  penalty are murder, treason, conspiracy to treason, treachery, aiding a child or a lunatic to commit suicide and many others.

Many think death penalty is a good consequence for horrible crimes but in our opinion we believe death penalty should be abolished because death penalty does not bring closure or healing to victims families.

Death penalty has caused a lot of issues in our country and in the whole world and this why death penalty needs to be abolished because it violates the right of life and it go against the religion principle and humanity values that are common to all humanity.

In our humble opinion, we think criminals can change their life around,  even though is hard but they can do that. We have seen cases of criminals who have change their ways after their jail terms but death penalty ends their life. In Death penalty the criminal has no Chance to change their life to be a better person.

Some people argued that death penalty reduce crime, they might also be right because of what happens in Nigeria recently, a young boy was earlier sentenced to death because he was as alleged of stealing a fowl and he was pardoned by the state government. Few months later, he was alleged of stealing a television again. The people who said death penalty reduce crime might also be right here. But when we are thinking of the pros we should be considering the cons too.

However, We are of the opinion that death penalty is wrong for so many reasons and the law needs to be reviewed. We wrote our concern on the case of a Segun Olowokere who was alleged of stealing a fowl that there are some other punishments that can serve as deterrent to offenders. The law governing death penalty should be reviewed and checked.

Death penalty is very inhuman to our society, it doesn’t matter the crime, two wrong can’t make a right. Killing someone is wrong no matter what the circumstances is. There is no justification for horrible crimes but killing is not an option and should never be. It can be used as an option for control but not justification.

Conclusion.

However, we hold the conclusion that death penalty should be abolished because death penalty denies the fallibility of human institutions and it is a collective punishment because it affects all the family members.
